Hi all, another newb here. Looking at getting a dependable Scooter for my wife as she travels about 12 miles to work. In Maine, if it is 50cc or less, we do not have to have a motorcylce license, so we want to stay with a 50cc. After doing some searching, it seams Tank is a fairly decent Scooter? Are there any that are better in a similar price range? Anything that can be done to de-restrict these or are they pretty much all the power we could get out of one? How are the Kymco Scooters?
Thanks!

if it is 50cc or less, we do not have to have a motorcylce license Probably the most frequent scooter selection mistake. Typical "slacker" post . . much easier to exploit others than researching previous forum contributions.

Thank you for answering my question. And thank you for the warm welcome. I guess with your 25 posts, you are a forum pro. Excuse my ignorance....... I have been searching and have not found my answers. Which is why I asked. Slacker

Sorry about that... That was uncalled. To me, if you find the question a "slacker" question then don't answer it. My mother always taught me that if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything, then should be applied to this situation. Once again, my apologies for this remark...
Now, to answer your question, through this forum you will find people that are riding all types of scooters, Tank, Baron, Lance, Roketa, Kymco and others. A 24 (12 each way)miles round trip is not a short trip for a 50 cc. I would want my wife on something dependable and safe. Something that perhaps was sold to you by a local dealer... Not sure if you like getting your hands dirty or if you understand about mechanics... All of that should be included in your equation.
Visit scooter dealers, talk to these guys... CONTINUE to ask question here and we will answer them... And if someone here does not care to answer then ignore the question...

I have an Eton Beamer Matrix which is a 2 stroke 50cc scooter. It is very dependable and a very nice smooth ride. It came deristricted from the dealer and does 40mph with a 230 lb rider. I also have a Verucci 50cc scooter which I bought over the internet and have also had good luck with it. It has a dependable 139QMB 4 stroke engine on it. It is a heavy and large scooter but still does around 35mph with a 230 lb rider. I can recommend both because I personally have had no major problems with either one.

I think for that distance you would be happier w/ a 150 and mcl endorsement.
If set on a 50 you should know that 45 is pretty much top end on all that I have had. (honda and Yamaha)
As far as chinese, look at several brands real close. Some that look alike are still built better than other, mildly. If you like mechanic work the chinese scoots are a great deal, I love my 150 roketa.
Also be careful about displacement. I understand that some of the 50cc bikes are actually bigger than 50cc and still require motorcycle lic.
My $.02 on 50cc is used Yamaha Zuma, but being a chinese site I should probably not make this known.

This site should not be limited to ONLY Chinese scooters. And I hope that we are not giving the impression that we are ANTI-Japanese or ANTI-Italian scooters. I myself own a Honda motorcycle and a 1962 Vespa. So as long as you enjoy scooters then everyone is welcome...
With that said Welcome to our board!!!
