So how often should we clean and inspect the cvt case and parts? I have 2200 miles on my scooter, purchased new in July and have not cleaned out the case yet. Should I do this before starting to ride alot in the spring?
The short answer is: Often. At least once a month. Twice a month if you ride a lot.
If your belt starts shredding, you want to know about it before it leaves you stranded 30 miles from home. Most Chinese belts (Zhuping) fail at 2-3000 miles so I would get in there and have a look soon. You may have been lucky and had a Gates belt installed stock in which case it should last you up to 10,000 miles under normal conditions. Gates Powerlink belts are the only belt I will buy.
It's also a good idea to write down the belt size when you inspect the CVT so you know what size you need to get when you replace it. If you wait till it fails you may not be able to read the numbers on it. It will say something like 842-20-30. 842 being the length, 20 being the width, and 30 being the taper angle of the sides of the belt.
