We are planning on tapping into the untouched market of custom scooter manufacturing for the true scooter enthusiasts. We are going to be using the industries best parts and are targeting a head turining scooter between the 3k-5k range. Just curious if you guys feel the market is there for this. Going to have sleek styling offering a 150/250cc engine. Other available options will include, wheels, brakes, lights, paint, exhaust, and basically anything you can think of including color contrasting with powder coat and chrome. Im interested to hear you feedback.

Thanks

Honestly? I personaly ride a Chinese scooter and fix it myself because it is a lot cheaper. Now if you were to keep your custom scooters well below the Japanese scooter market prices you may be able to find some interest. Depends on what you offer.
Now if you were to offer say, chrome, and custom paint in itself? To those of us that already own a scooter, I could see sending in my plastic for a custom paint job over the winter months if the price was right.

I think you are barking up the wrong tree here fella. We are the crowd that buys scooters that are well below the 3K price tag.
(I paid $2,495.00 for my 250cc scooter)
Most of the members here buy scooters below 2K, such as 150cc and 50cc. I doubt you will find any takers here.

You can put as much perfume and fancy clothes as you want on a pig, but underneath it all it's still a pig.

I agree! Once you get past the 3000 mark for a 250cc you may as well invest in a motorcycle. We are all pretty cheap here and frugal with our money! You get the price down to 1000 to 3000 and then we will talk.

The other day, the owner of the auto place I got my chinese scooter, asked me if I was interesting in a vespa. 149cc vespa.
I was until he said $4,000. That is insane. It is insane to charge $2000 for a 50cc, I think.
I told him for that price I would buy a used auto or a used motorcycle.
My landlord could have bought a 149cc used chinese scooter for $600. I test rode it and it ran good.
But then the guy sold it to someone else.

The whole Idea behind getting a scooter for me was that it's a cheap form of transportation and fun. If I want to sink 3-5 grand into looking cool then I'd go to the dentist and change my wardrobe.  Cheesy

BTW, there's nothing new about custom scooters...

Yeah, I kind of thought those were a given and mandatory, for it to be a functioning scooter.  Smiley
"yeah, the price tag is kinda high, so leave off the wheels and lights, and may as well the brakes to, because I won't have any wheels for the brakes to stop. In fact, I will just take the seat, for two thousand."

I own two 50cc scooters and the reason why is because gas was getting too expensive. My guess is that the 50cc market here is looking for inexpensive stuff...but that's not gonna stop me from wanting one of those nice custom scooters.

If you really want to expand the market...get the Discovery Channel to give you a show on tuning scooters Smiley
