A dealer in my area has this scooter for sale: http://www.buyatvscheap.com/Linhai-Yamaha-Aeolus-150-Retro-Scooter-p/aeolus%20150.htm
Except it's cream and orange color. For a Chinese made scooter, it's got a classy look to it. But the best thing about it, it's brand new. For once in my life I want something that hasn't been thrashed by a previous owner. Me, I'll break the engine in slowly and put high octane gas in it. But here is where the turmoil lies, that is I'm thinking that a 250 would be a more practical choice since I could take it on the freeway to work daily. But then I'd be looking at $3200 out the door. I don't have that kind of money nor do I want to put that much into a scooter right now. My job is 9 miles from home. I hop on the freeway for 4 of those miles. Obviously I'll have to take surface streets on a 150. I just don't want to find myself thinking, "damn, i'm in a hurry I wish I could hop on the interstate." On the other hand the commute to work will be my recreational riding so big deal if I have to take the roads for a few extra miles, I'll still save a ton of gas over my V6 Buick. As far as city and downtown riding, I think this little scooter will be funner than a 250, it's not a big touring type scooter. I'll probably be moving closer to work too. I know all the facts about 150's. But how do they work out for you in daily commuting? Here is another picture: http://www.scootertronics.com/liaere150.html

That 150cc is a new design I haven't seen before. It looks like a reworked Tank Viaggio or a Roketa Sicily. By reworked I mean they changed the front plastics and the luggage rack so it looks like a cross between retro and modern. It's not my style but it's not ugly. $1350 shipped is a pretty good deal for a 150cc scoot.

Here's a pic of a Viaggio:

Contact Evelyn @ Allpro Powersports. They are a very reputable dealer with an actual building.  They run this forum.  Maybe they can work a satisfactory deal for you on a 250cc ? Forum members get a 10% discount. Smiley Probably not open today (Sunday)

Well, my 150cc is perfect for my commute, about 8 miles to work for me. It costs me about $6 a week to get to work in the summer. Been scooting to work for 5 years now. Not for freeway, highway ok. I only think about getting something like a 250cc when I get the cruise bug in me. More recreational, more distance, more power. I can travel at 55mph comfortably. Most of the roads I ride to work are 45mph. The 50cc I rode for 1 year, was not as comfortable around agressive drivers as the 150. Need Motorcycle endorsement, but worth the extra effort if you don't have it yet. Interesting mod/retro cross design on that scooter.

If you're able to break 60 mph on a scooter that only weighs 220, that's got to feel pretty fast right? Or do you feel like man, I wish this thing had another 15 mph in it? And as far as stop and go driving goes, it sucks in a car because it's a lot of wasted energy and wear and tear on the car. But on a scooter you probably don't mind stop and go traffic as much. It's probably fun getting to accelerate. Again, I'm only asking this because the 150 won't be taken on freeways.

It feels fast enough. I only wished for more when on a highway straitaway, on a 40 mile trip. If you are considering more long distance travel, save up for the 250cc. If just that work commute, you will be happy with the 150cc.  Stop and go is no problem. The 150 has nice pick up compared to a car. I can pull away from a stop alot faster than any car, and make a comfort zone pretty easy.
