I put a scooter on layaway at a local dealer this past week. I went with the Linhai Aeolus 150. I'm very excited, this will be my first scooter. My next thing is insurance. In Florida, motorcycle insurance is not required on any motorcycle period. My main thing is having comprehensive coverage in case it gets stolen. I got a quote at Progressive where I already have car insurance. It's about $140/year with comprehensive and liability. The insurance lady said if it was stolen, I'd be reimbursed a sort of "blue book" value. Do you know where they base this value off of? I hope the scooter doesn't depreciate $500 the second I drive it off the lot. As far as the liability, I don't know why Progressive automatically includes this when motorcycle insurance isn't even required by law. If I get in an accident my scooter and my body are what's going to be messed up! That brings me to the next thing, PIP coverage, do you think I should get it? If I include that it bumps the rate up to $470/year. BTW, I have no health care coverage at work, I just missed the deadline and have to wait another year. You don't have to wear a helmet if you have PIP or health care coverage but I don't mind wearing one. If I drove safely and wore a helmet I could save a lot of money. What do you think? Then maybe next year get health care at work.
So in recap I need in insurance for a 150cc scooter, mainly comprehensive. But also, what is your opinion on liability and PIP coverage?

Think about all those 2 ton automobiles out there that will claim they didn't see you when they explain to the police why you are lying in the roadway with multiple contusions, and then decide how much your health and well being are worth to you.
Statistically speaking, if you ride a motorcycle you will go down on it at least once in your life.
Thankfully I went down back in 1984 when I was younger and able to heal quickly. I'd hate to be laid up at my age.

I carry full coverage on my scooter and it runs me 240 per year, this includes PIP, and un-insured driver clauses.
