Check your batter connections and also see if it's charged. It could also be a worn out starter--but that's the last thing to buy, or a bad solenoid/relay. Maybe the fuse?

If it's the battery then that's easy. If the battery is charged fully then the relay is probably bad.

The starter "relay" can also be called the starter "solenoid".

Does it click when you try to start it, or click after it is started?

Try jump starting it with a car battery. Don't need to start the car engine. Just hook the red cable to the scooter battery and the black one to the scooters frame somewhere like the kick stand pivot bolt. The starter is grounded to the engine by it's shell so you could touch the black lead to the starter itself and that would be fine.

If it starts with the car battery then it's probably your battery that's the problem. When a scooter battery starts to fade away it'll say "Fully charged" on the charger but the amperage is lower than it should be and that continues till it dies altogether.

Exactly.  Sometimes we dismiss the battery because it reads +12.4 volts.  But we often forget that these batteries are only rated at 6-8 Amp Hours.  If the battery is down by 1-2 Ah, then you will get a clicking starter.

My starter did the same thing a ways back. I took it apart and put it back together and it started. It was confusing. It'd start a few times and then click again.
When all was said and done, it hit a dead spot. I could take my cvt cover off, grab a small pair of long nose pliers, and turn the small gear at the end of the starter just a tad---- and it'd start, until it landed on that spot again.

ok i took the starter off and turned the scooter on and the starter ran fine so then i put the starter back in and turn the scooter on and finally it sounded like it wanted to start. the cooling fan started to turn but then stop so i kept trying to start it and the cooling fan only turned a small bit like the first time so i repeated the prosses until my battery died and the clicking sound came back. so is it a weak starter or what?

You have a weak battery. Put it on a charger overnight, but be sure the charger doesn't put out more than 1.5 amps during the charging process or it will cook the battery dry.
If it still won't start with the charger, then you may need a new battery.
The clicking you hear is the starter relay pulling in, but the battery doesn't have enough amperage to supply a strong current to the coil for spark.

My JMStar has done that a couple times, but I just use the kick start and it run it for a few minutes and it seems to be fine after that until I forget to turn key to off position again.  I think a new battery is probably the culprit in your case.  Partsforscooters.com has them at what seems to be a good price.  I am probably going to buy a new one soon as my battery is about 3 years old.

I do a ground fix to all my engine operated machines, and it pays off the time.
Most(not say all)motorcycles, cars, and other machine's frames are truly painted before assembly. Then, the ground terminals are conected via screw to the frame at different spots. The connection over the paint is realy poor, and after some corrosion builds up on them, the resistance to the electricity flow increases.
Do yourself a big favor before expending more $$$ in a new battery. Scrap the metal until it shines at the ground connections(I found one at the bottom of the frame with about 1/32" paint. Go figure!), add some dielectric grease to them(to delay the corrosion effect), and try to star your engine.
This will not only extend your batery life, but your starter motor and switch as well.
I have a 2003 Honda VTX 1800cc with 50k miles on her ribs, and still runs with the stock battery. It sarts like new.
Another hint. If you are not going to use your scoot for more than a week, think on using a battery tender on her. Remember how small this batteries are. They can not hold electricity for to long if connected to the scooter.
Just my 2 cents Wink
