I just got this scoot and upon initial inspection (amongst other things) noticed there was about a half inch of oil in the clear catch tube connected to the air intake box and drained it out (about a week ago) this scoot is a 2011 Jonway YY150T-12 the air box is under the seat and today I was taking plastics off to get to the carb to take off the cap on the mixture screw and check the valve adjustments so after going on an errand today just for the heck of it I checked the oil (about 25 miles on it so far) and lo and behold  no oil on the dipstick and there it was in that clear tube backed up into the intake filter box..now this scoot has a new (to me) exhaust hook up that goes back to intake, it being a 2011 I'm thinking it is some kind California set up to be compliant, my BMS had no such set up (2008 model) and even after 2000 miles it only had about an inch of oil in the overflow tube....anybody have any feedback on what causes this much oil to collect?

Start by checking all your crank case vents(pcv if equipped).  Also, make sure your air box(and air filter) can get the air it needs, or it will suck the air from the crank case, along with your oil.  Does the scoot have any idle issues?  Does it smoke at start up? at idle?  WOT?

Take of all that emissions crap and plug off all the holes except the fuel tank vent. You can make a plug for the port on the cylinder head so you can remove that chrome tube running to it. I have made several over the years with only a hack saw, drill and a grinder. It makes valve adjustments a lot easier getting that tube out of the way.

Then get a 5 foot piece of 1/4 inch fuel line from the auto parts store and run the vent as shown here.

Having the tube run uphill like that should stop the leakage but check the oil level a lot for the first day after to make sure and you'll never have to drain that tube again. Actually, you can remove that clear tube altogether. Your carb will stay cleaner as well cause it's not recirculating those oily watery fumes.

No this thing runs good almost made me not want to fool with all the adjustments but as we all know it does need to be done....after getting that brass cap of the mixture screw sure enough it idled up after about a quarter turn counter-clockwise about another grand and while there heard some faint tapping so decided to check the valve lash and here come question #2 I see and read that .004 intake and .005 exhaust but for the life of me can't find any feeler guages that size are we sure that this is millimeters? and the second part to the question is all of the valves I have done were with one or the other at the top of the lobe on the cam in other words when one is open adjust the other one...instead of all ''off the lobe so to speak'' am I wrong or should both be ''at rest'' i.e. off the lobe

The manual says: .05mm That equates to .0197 inches.

Read this valve adjustment guide I wrote up. It will answer all your questions:

Removing the emissions controls won't make it run any different. You might even see an overall improvement. It will make it easier to work on and more reliable because you'll have less chance of developing a vacuum leak with all that tubing removed. I remove that stuff every time I see it. I just remove it and plug it off. It's annoying having all those friggin' hoses everywhere.

yeah you are right about all that stuff and I have always taken it off myself...had an MGB once and plugged and stopped all that and it ran like a top...they (the British) really butchered that thing trying to meet requirements..by the time it was on its last production run it only had about 65 bhp because of all the emission crapola...but don't tell that to those folks in that big state on the west coast....

thanks for clearing up the valve gap business you would not believe everything I have seen my set says .0197 inches equals roughly .5000001 mm or .025 inches equals .635mm on the guages I have one new and one made in the 70's...I believe I'll stick with your numbers....

I'm in Cali. As long as you have a C.A.R.B. Certificate then you are good to go. (California Air Resources Board) The DMV inspectors don't remove the seat tub and check all that stuff out. The CARB CERT. is all they wanna see. They are more concerned that all the lights are working and that the VIN # matches the paperwork. They don't inspect them every time you renew your reg. either. Just the first time you reg. it.

If you read the fine print on some dealer sites it'll say "We do not ship to California" because they didn't pay the extra fee for the Smog Certification. I never buy from a website anyway. I wanna see a scooter in person before I lay down my cash.

the thing of it is around here on my side of the world there are very few dealers that aren't fly by nighters and of course they tack on a bunch for the right to sell it to ya and the dealers we do have are....lets just say very very proud of what they have to offer..so in my case buying on line wasn't too bad a deal...and none of em wanna work on em anyway around here and when they do you are just as well off to do it yourself...and the people I buy from are in Calif......go figure
