Scooter49 About that vacuum line...is that the one attached to the intake elbow?  If so, I'm not getting any gas when I suck on it.

Fox:  I don't have a compression tester and I can't tell if I have enough compression or not.  Went to the Auto Parts store to see about renting one, but they don't have 10mm adapter.  I'll look around some more.

Thanks for replies

You test gas flow by removing both the fuel line from the carb and the vacuum line from the intake and then you suck on the vacuum line. Fuel should flow out of the fuel line only while you suck on the vacuum line.

Well now...
After trying all the great advice given here, nothing worked to get it started.  So I gave up and took it to the dealer I bought it from.  The diagnosis: "the engine is toast."  Bad compression.  So they've ordered a kit and are going to rebuild the motor.  Parts were under warranty, but I'll have to pay labor.

At least I know what's wrong now.
Thanks for all the tips!
