I've dealt with scooterdepot.com before on a customer's scooter. They replaced the parts next day mail no questions asked. You have to get the guy who authorizes warranty parts on the phone like I did.

Check to make sure the fuse by the battery is good. Turn the idle screw on the carburetor clockwise to increase idle speed.

Thats a new one to me. What about you Fox. I have never seen anything like that metal hose coming from the exhaust. Looks like a vacuum cleaner attachment.

That's an EGR valve. (Smog device)  scoot49, It's a rubber hose inside a spring. The spring helps to keep the hose from kinking or getting damaged. That's a EGR valve.  You can remove the whole EGR unit from the exhaust pipe and plug off the port on the pipe with a metal cap shaped something like this:

You can make it yourself. All you need is a piece of 1 inch x 1/8-3/16 thick flat steel, a drill, a grinder and a hack saw. Use the gasket that's on there now. You can buy flat steel at Home Depot.

If your scooter has a metal tube on the valve cover like the pic below then you can remove that tube and plug off the port on the head with a flat steel plug as well. (2nd pic) The less of that smog crap you have the better it'll run, it'll be more reliable due to less crap to go wrong and it's easier to work on a scooter without all that crap in the way. That metal tube gets in the way of adjusting the valves. Again, use the same gasket.

I'm in Cali too.  Pasadena   Where are you?

You probably have a vacuum leak somewhere. All the tubes and hose on these things are a pain. Basically, you need a vacuum line running from the intake rubber boot to the fuel valve and that's it. All the rest of that crap can be removed and the holes plugged off. The only thing you don't plug is the gas tank vent tube if you have one. It needs to breath so leave that open to the atmosphere.

Once you pass inspection the first time, then they never look at it again and even when they do inspect it they are more worried that all the lights and stuff work and the VIN matches the paperwork. You don't have to get a smog check every year or two with a scooter.

I have never seen anything like that on any scooter here in Wisconsin. I wonder if that is put on because you guys live in California and the smog and emissions tests are much tougher? I do not believe we even have those tests here in Wisconsin, especially on scooters. I learned something new today anyways.

Well, the last time I had a scooter inspected I don't think the guy was looking for stuff like that. they just want to see the C.A.R.B. certificate. I'm a scooter mechanic with 7 years experience. If you want to get it running tip-top you can bring it to my place or I can come to you if you don't have a truck to haul it here. I usually won't go to O.C. but since you're a member of the club I'll make an exception. I'm very reasonable.

I think that hose attaches to another smog device module (pics below) but I could be wrong. There's two types of these other modules I've seen them on lots of scooters and I always get rid of 'em.
