I recently got a TMEC BD50QT3 scooter. Everything looks the same as the one's I see posted here. It has 2000 miles. I've done a oil change and plug, and cleaned out the carb, not with any cleaner tho. It has a hard time starting and is a beast for the first 10min, after, it starts right up. Problem. It never has idled, and it starts out good then seems almost like its flooding out or something, and it will die. and then it takes another minute or so before it will start again. same thing again I can go 1/2 a block and then it bogs out and dies. Also when its on the center stand and I have it running, it will run fine, sometimes even idles, but I can gas it all the way and it doesn't die, it will rev right up and stay running at high speed, but when I try to ride it, as soon as I give it gas and start going it will die. It starts out strong then chokes out and dies, makes stop signs hard! lol..Any suggestions?HuhHuh I would be eternally in your debt. would up grading to a larger carb, a hi pre-formance one that has a main jet 105, and idle 35?? Thanks for help

Welcome!

Needs a valve adjustment followed by a carb idle mixture screw adjusted and it'll run great again. It's not as hard as you may think and believe me it'll make a world of difference. You may wanna clean the carb again with some spray but you may not have to so wait til after you do the valves and carb adjust.

Here's a full guide for valve and carb adjustment:

Let us know how it turns out.  Smiley

Hello again, well did the valve adjustment, and it needed it. She purrs like a kitten parked! and starts right up now, but I'm still having issues with it. Parked on the center stand, I can rev it up pretty good, but only if I don't give it alot of gas. it stalls out still if I do. And when I tried to ride it, it would only go to about 10 or so mph and if I gave it gas it would stall out?? I tried adjusting the screws but didn't seem to help. when its parked and is revd up high it takes a minute to get their then it will run smooth and every now an then it would hesitate, but getting on it. It stalls out trying to give it gas, I did bore out the main jet valve abit, so its getting more gas, any suggestions?? it seem to help to when i took out the air filter? Thanks so much for any help, Its frustrating, cause it starts right up, idles great, revs up on the stand but can't ride the damn thing...lol

You shouldn't have drilled the jet but what's done is done so lets try a few things....

Since you increased the main jet size you need to open up the air flow now to compensate. Try running it without the air filter and see what happens. Then try removing the air box cover and see if there is a restrictor tube inside. If so remove it and then put the cover back on and try it like that and then report back and we'll go from there.

I took these pics a few years ago when it was 100º in summer hence the shirt is missing.

If the airbox alteration doesn't work there may be a clip on the carb needle that can be moved to make the fuel mixture leaner. Move it upward to the top notch to make less fuel go in and see if that makes a difference.

Sir, your AWESOME..the air filter case doesn't have that in it, but the needle does! I was looking at that when I put everything back together. I was told to bore it out abit to help increase speed, I will order a new one! Let me ask you this, the big hose that go's from the air box to the carb is a bit split around the fitting on the carb, and the hose that comes off the valve cover is a bit loose as well, would that have anything to do with it? What about the auto choke could it be bad? I'll tell ya, I'm all of 110lbs soaking wet, so its not like I'm a big pull on the little engine..lol..Thank you again for all your time. I will move the move the ring up on the pin and check her out..

You can probably use radiator hose tape to repair the airbox hose, and zip ties make great clamps on the smaller hoses. Any leaks, even air can cause problems. If when you start the scooter it revs higher, then drops down in speed after warming up, the auto choke is most likely working proper.
