Well, if that was there, how would you start your scooter for adjusting the idle speed? or do any other work that requires the engine to be running?[/u]

I assumed he meant the center stand, but I start my scoot all the time with the side stand down AND with the centerstand down.
Unlike the 150's the 250's side stand is just as it should be, sturdy. And it holds the scooter up very well.

Side kick stand!!!! Quote from dealers instructions:  "If the scooter does not turn over, it could be that the side stand is down. If the side stand is down the engine will not turn over. If running and the side stand is lowered, the engine will kill." The difference may be that my scooter is a "Longbo" and not a "Tank", but either way they are both made by Chuanl Motorcycle Manufacturing Co. and I guess they put different features on each one. By the way , the reason for this is that the way the oil is circulated thru the engine is by the crank that drives the gearbox to the rear tire (splash lubrication). If you let your scooter sit too long at an idle without moving, it will not circulate the oil and you will burn up your engine.

Lashk, that sounds a little weird.   I figured that the 150cc engine would probably be splash lubricated, but all of the drive train would be rotating even if the rear wheel was not turning.  The TANK scooters use a friction clutch connected to the final pully in the variator to transmit rotational power to the rear wheel.  Everything is turning up to the clutch assembly.   The engine is constantly supplying rotational power to the variator assembly, and  should have some internal mechansism to keep the cylinder lubricated, even something as simple as the "dipping rod" setup Briggs and Stratton uses on some of their 4 strokes.   Anyway, if what you describe for your bike is for real, that is a little bit scary.  What if you get stuck at a long light, are in heavy traffic, at a RR crossing, etc.  It doesn't take much to fry a air cooled engine with no lubrication.   I have read nothing about the situation you described before.  Also, I believe that the TANKS are manufactured at the ASA Scooter plant in China which looks to be the plant making the Longbos as well.

I have a start problem with my 250. I do all the right things but I only get a click, after about 20 clicks it decides to start. At first I thought it was the battery. I recharged it 3 times to 13.5 volts, still click. I installed my rideing mower battery behind the radio and hooked thru the cycle battery. It still cliks but I cant run the battery's down any more.

Has any one had this problem? After calling 3 shops that refused to look at it I found one that will but not until the 13th.   Cliff Larson

Time to check all the electrical connections on the scooter, it sounds like you may have a loose connection somewhere.

Thanks Sparky, Long time replying but I got a trailer and took it down to the only place that wanted to look at it. The man jumped on the trailer, checked it out, and said sounds like a bad relay. He traced a few wires, found the relay, shorted across the poles and the thing started every time. He had a relay, (of another breed) put it on and I was gone in about 45 minutes.

Needless to say he will stay on my Christmas list.  The 250 turns over once and starts every time.

WOW if you believe the kickstand cutoff, maybe i can sell ya a bridge in brooklyn......lol Cheesy  that justy sounds very unbelieveable to me. when my bike is parked i use the side stand to get off it and then the center stand to leave it parked. both stands are down so when im done shopping i start it on the center stand, roll it foward a little and let it sit on the side stand so i can get on it, then i put up the side stand. never heard of any scoot havin a kill switch on a stand..... side or center. but who kows maybe i missed something.

The kill switch is built into the side stand of many of the scooters. At one point I thought it was a federal mandate for scoots sold in the U.S.  Machines are not consstant and since then I have come to understand that it isn't always there. (Huh) My Tank Touring has the switch... since I bought it only a few months after John did I think perhaps Tank added it after understanding the rules better or some such.  It's there to prevent riding off with the stand down and having it cause injury from the resulting accident.  Bad logic but typical.  Anyway, since discovering this bit of circuitry I have had it go bad on the T'n'G Milano I had.  A by-pass is the solution rather than replacing it in that case.
