I have a Tank urban sporty 50cc that I got from my brother inlaw. He used it as a rental at his hotel, and when I got it, the speedo didnt work and the battery was not keeping a charge (just enough to get it started, but not always). He told me that he let a long term tenant at the hotel borrow it and she may have modded it (no speed limit screw on the throttle).

We used it around our community for 3 or so weeks and then it began to develop the problem, starting every once in a while and today 5 times with in a mile. It will start fine, but idle uneven. It will accelerate, but once it gets going it will slowly die out, losing rpm until the engine cuts it self out.

Im lost as to where to start, so please, any suggestion would be great.

Thats my scooter.($150!!!!)
the certificate of origin says 1.8 horsepower... feels like it... pulls up to like 20 then crawls to 30-35...
what can i do to help it get up to 30-35 faster? im not looking for any miracles... ima go over the scooter to "derestrict it" this weekend... it looks simple enough, just if the cvt has those rings on it im not too sure what exactly to do...

im convertin it to a 150 next spring (i know, illegal) so what are the most cost effective mod's for the 50cc for now?

gas guage dont work? is this a float or?

also the speedometer is in kilometers... do they sell ones that show miles? i got 3555 kilo's(2209 miles) on it now... just dont like having to bust out the conversion calc. every time i wanna know mileage...

thank you in advance... ill let ya know how it turns out this weekend...

If it is the one I'm familiar with, it is a Chinese made GY6 based scooter. They are sold on many internet dealers for about $700.00 plus shipping usually. The GY6 was designed by Honda. As far as a place to go to get specific information for the scooter, that would be hard to find, other than asking questions here. There are tons of scooters from China made on this format. If you actually have a local brick and mortar dealership that carries it, I think it should sell for no more than $1,200.00, but try to get it for about $1,000.00

The average person should be able to ride it at speeds of about 50-55 mph. Fuel economy should be 70 - 80 mpg. Riding it on surface streets should not be a problem, You will not want to take it on a freeway.

If you are not a person that can do your own work on it you will need to find a mechanic that will service Chinese scooters, almost no big name scooter shops/motorcycle shops will work on them. Forums like this one will have lots of advice on fixing them yourself.

I am looking for information about a Velocity 150 cc scooter.  Anyone know much about it?  Also, I am trying to locate an even smaller "run-a-round" the neighborhood if I decide the Velocity is too large for that purpose.  I remember the old Moped which was used on side roads.  Any information you can share which would help me decide, would be appreciated.

If it is just the styling you are looking for, you can search any number of scooter dealerships that sell the Chinese scooters and possibly find a similar style scooter to what you want. Buying a Chinese scooter though is not for everybody. That it a hole other topic and has been hashed out before.

Yes . I have'nt ever had to do it myself but I think if you do like you said that would be the way to test it.
You should see the needle move slowly after the wiring ends are placed on the battery terminals.
You certainly have nothing to lose by testing it so I say go for it. Exactly which wire goes on the positive terminal and which one on the negative I could not say. I would say try it and see what happens.

The idle doesn't go up at all once it starts. I will go check all the wiring. I'm planning on buying a few new toys for it. Which included a new high performance carb ( http://www.monsterscooterparts.com/125cc-150cc-electric-choke-carburetor.html) and a new CDI ( http://www.monsterscooterparts.com/racingcdi.html )

Wasn't wanting to buy them until I figured out the problem (nothing worse then spending money on something that just sits there) but I'm thinking maybe they might help me fix the problem?..

Is there a way to test the auto choke? Like hooking it up to a external battery and watching to see if the needle moves?

It certainly does sound like that NEW choke is bad. Your engine should idle high at first startup and slowly idle down if the choke is working properly. You said you have adjusted valves and cleaned the carb thoroughly. Either the choke is bad or perhaps it is not getting power to the electric choke because of faulty wiring. You say it runs good once it warms up so again that points to the choke not working like it should. I guess I would double check the wiring to the choke or get another one.
